UV DTF Printing in Maldives — The Most Versatile Printing Technology
When standard printing is not enough — when your client wants genuine gold foil, a raised 3D varnish texture, or full-colour printing on a mug, glass panel, or metal surface — UV DTF is the answer.
At Perfect Digital, we operate the Jiamei A1 UV DTF Printer, powered by an EPSON i3200 print head and a 7-channel ink system: CMYK for full-colour reproduction, white ink as an opacity base, varnish for tactile 3D texture, and dedicated gold foil ink for genuine metallic effects — all in a single print pass.
This is the most technically capable printing system in our studio, and it opens up a category of applications that no other method can match.
What Is UV DTF Printing?
UV DTF (UV Direct-to-Film) printing uses ultraviolet-cured inks applied through a multi-channel print head onto a special AB transfer film. The printed film is then applied to the target surface using heat and pressure, bonding the image permanently to the substrate.
Unlike standard inkjet or DTF garment printing, UV inks cure almost instantly under UV light during the print process. This creates several important advantages:
- Exceptional sharpness — UV-cured inks do not spread or bleed during curing, producing crisp lines and fine detail at up to 9600 DPI.
- Hard surface compatibility — UV inks adhere to glass, metal, plastic, ceramic, and other hard substrates that water-based inks cannot bond with.
- Special effect inks — the varnish channel creates a raised, tactile 3D finish; the gold channel produces genuine metallic gold that standard CMYK printing cannot replicate.
The 7-Channel Ink System
What sets UV DTF apart from every other printing technology is the ink configuration:
| Channel | Ink | Purpose |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Cyan | Full-colour CMYK base |
| 2 | Magenta | Full-colour CMYK base |
| 3 | Yellow | Full-colour CMYK base |
| 4 | Black (K) | Full-colour CMYK base |
| 5 | White | Opacity base on dark/transparent surfaces |
| 6 | Varnish | Raised 3D tactile texture |
| 7 | Gold Foil | Genuine metallic gold effect |
Most printers use 4 channels (CMYK). Our 7-channel system adds three capabilities that redefine what printed materials can look and feel like.

Key Features in Detail
Gold Foil Effect
The 7th ink channel carries genuine gold foil ink that is UV-cured directly into the print. There is no separate foiling step, no hot stamping die, and no registration challenge — the gold is printed as part of the design file itself. The result is a rich, metallic gold finish that can be applied to any part of any design, on any supported substrate, in any quantity.
This is particularly valuable for premium business cards, award certificates, luxury packaging labels, branded merchandise, and any application where the gold adds perceived value.
3D Varnish Raised Effect
The varnish channel deposits a clear UV-cured layer on top of the printed design. This layer builds up a tactile, raised texture that you can feel with your fingertip. The effect can be applied across an entire design or selectively — for example, raising a logo or brand name above a flat printed background.
3D varnish is increasingly used on premium business stationery, hotel room signage, event invitations, and branded packaging where differentiation at the point of touch matters.
White Ink Base Layer
On dark, black, or transparent surfaces, colour inks applied without a base will appear dull or disappear entirely. The white ink channel automatically deposits an opaque base layer beneath the colour inks, ensuring that CMYK colours appear fully vivid regardless of the substrate.
This enables UV DTF to print on black fabric, dark glass, transparent acrylic, and other surfaces that would be impossible to print on with standard colour-only systems.
Borderless Printing
Our printer supports true edge-to-edge printing with no white margins or unprinted borders. The design fills the entire print area, which is particularly important for labels, stickers, packaging, and decorative applications where a clean, professional edge finish is required.
Wireless Connectivity
The Jiamei A1 connects via Wi-Fi, allowing print jobs to be submitted from any device on the network without physical connection. This reduces setup time for each job and allows our operators to manage print queues efficiently.
Refillable Ink Tank System
The continuous ink supply system reduces ink changeover downtime and keeps per-unit costs low for high-volume production. The refillable tank design is also more cost-efficient than cartridge-based systems — a benefit that flows through to competitive pricing on larger orders.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is UV DTF printing?
UV DTF (UV Direct-to-Film) printing uses ultraviolet-cured inks applied through a 7-channel system — CMYK + White + Varnish + Gold — onto special AB film, which is then transferred to virtually any hard or soft surface including fabric, glass, metal, plastic, mugs, and more.
What surfaces can UV DTF print on?
UV DTF prints on both soft surfaces (textile, banner paper, plain paper) and hard surfaces (labels, card stock, glossy photo paper, envelopes, thermal paper, transparencies, mugs, glass, metal, and plastic).
What is the gold foil feature?
Our Jiamei A1 has a dedicated 7th ink channel for gold foil. This lets us print genuine gold foil accents directly into the design — no separate foiling step required — producing a vivid metallic finish on any surface.
What is the 3D varnish raised effect?
The varnish ink channel creates a raised, tactile 3D texture on the print surface — adding a premium feel to logos, text, and design elements on business cards, labels, and promotional items.
What is the maximum print size?
Our Jiamei A1 UV DTF printer supports widths up to 600mm (A1 size) with unlimited length via the roll-to-roll system.
What resolution does your UV printer achieve?
The EPSON i3200 print head achieves resolutions up to 9600 DPI — delivering ultra-fine detail, sharp edges, and photorealistic output on every surface.
Can you print white ink on dark surfaces?
Yes. The dedicated white ink channel lays an opaque base on dark or transparent surfaces, ensuring full colour vibrancy regardless of the substrate colour.
What is the difference between UV DTF and regular DTF?
Regular DTF is optimised for garment printing — excellent wash resistance on fabric but limited to soft surfaces. UV DTF uses UV-cured inks that adhere to hard surfaces (glass, metal, plastic, mugs) and add gold foil and 3D varnish capabilities that standard DTF cannot produce.
